StemFit®AK03N is a growth medium for ES / iPS cells, jointly developed by Ajinomoto and CiRA (Center for iPS cell research and application, Kyoto University). AK03N is free of human and animal-derived components, and PMDA* has confirmed its eligibility for use in cell therapy. AK03N is a high-quality product manufactured using Ajinomoto technology, and has been confirmed by CGT Catapult to have superior performance than other commercially available media, and is widely used for iPS/ES cell production in clinical research.
AK03N is commercially available only in Japan, while Basic03 is available globally.
AK03N is composed of liquid A, B and C. Liquid A and B is completely the same as Basic03, and Liquid C is a bFGF supplement. Therefore, Basic03 becomes the same composition as AK03N by adding bFGF to Basic03.

- What’s the difference between Basic03 and AK03N?
AK03N is available only in Japan and corresponds to Basic03 but it includes bFGF.
Basic03 is used for iPSC establishment, expansion and is also used in a differentiation process as a basal media.
StemFit®AK02N (AK02N) is correspond to AK03N but it contains human derived ingredient and categorized into xeno-free media. AK02N is widely used in basic research field because it has the same performance as AK03N and more affordable price.
AK02N is commercially available only in Japan, while Basic04 Complete Type (Basic04CT) is available globally. AK02N is composed of liquid A, B and C whereas Basic04CT is provided in one bottle that is ready to use. Furthermore, animal derived ingredients in AK02N are replaced with recombinant materials in Basic04CT to achieve an animal origin free formulation.
